Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

Personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education and at Copleston we provide a wide and diverse range of information to build on the statutory content already outlined in the national curriculum, the basic school curriculum and in statutory guidance on: drug education, financial education, sex and relationship education (SRE) and the importance of physical activity and diet for a healthy lifestyle.

While some of the PSHE curriculum remains non‑statutory, most of its core content, including Relationships Education, RSE, and Health Education, has been statutory since 2020. Our PSHE programme has always and remains focused on equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to make safe, healthy, and informed decisions.

Our curriculum has recently been re-developed and covers additional current topics such as sexual harassment, social media usage and safety as well as equality and diversity.  Many of these topics are also reinforced via our BASE and APEX tutor time programmes.

PSHE and RSHE Parent/Carer Consultation 2026-27

At Copleston High School, we are committed to supporting students' personal development, wellbeing and preparation for adult life through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education programme. Our PSHE curriculum is delivered through dedicated lessons, tutor time, assemblies and enrichment activities, providing students with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to lead safe, healthy and successful lives.

Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is a statutory part of the curriculum in all secondary schools. Updated Department for Education guidance will come into effect from September 2026 and, as part of this process, schools are required to consult with students, parents/carers, staff and governors regarding their PSHE and RSHE policy and curriculum provision.

The consultation period will run from 17 July 2026 until 14 August 2026 at 5.00pm.

As part of the consultation, parents/carers, staff and governors are invited to review the following documents and provide feedback:

  1. Copleston High School PSHE and RSHE Policy
  2. Copleston High School PSHE Curriculum Overview
  3. Parent/Carer Consultation Letter
