Beyond the Classroom

Introduction

At Copleston, we encourage all our students to get involved in activities outside the classroom to enrich and extend the work done in lessons and to develop their understanding of the world through building cultural capital. These activities also enable students to develop important skills such as team work, organisation and leadership. The impact of these activities on mental health should also not be underestimated.

Beyond the classroom, we provide a large number of trips and visits. Most of these have a direct link to work done in lessons such as theatre visits to see the plays studied in English or Drama, museum visits to bring aspects of the curriculum to life, field work to support Science and Geography and trips abroad to enhance language skills. We also provide cultural experiences such as our New York trip.

We offer many  clubs and activities. This includes a large number of sporting clubs and teams, music groups and orchestras, and a number of special interest clubs such as Science Club. This is all further enhanced by our popular "What's on Wednesdays" (WOW). You can find out more about this in our Extra Curricular and Enrichment sections.

We also offer students a number of personal development opportunities. Our "I Aspire" programme encourages students to be aspirational in this and to undertake challenges which will push them beyond their comfort zone as well as enabling them to play a key role in different aspects of school life and to develop into confident individuals. Students have the opportunity to participate in our School Council or to become Student Leaders and Prefects, enabling them to develop their leadership skills and have their say in different aspects of school life.

Please use the links in the sub-menu to find out more about different areas of student life at Copleston.
