Places to Eat and Relax

At Copleston, we offer a wide range of eating areas from more formal seated areas for hot meals to kiosks for hot and cold snacks. We have also recently created some fabulous new areas for relaxation during breaks and lunchtimes. We have dedicated areas for Sixth Form use but they can also access the eating and open areas throughout the school. All of our outlets are cashless and most use our account system which can be topped up from home or via payment points within school. All areas have staff on duty at both break and lunchtimes.

Places To Eat

The Canteen

The Canteen is situated to the side of the main hall and has recently been refurbished. This is the place to go for a hot meal, seated at tables. Students can choose from a range of cooked food, and the canteen often runs special days to celebrate food from a particular country, as well as marking big events. Our Christmas meal is particularly popular and is served with all the trimmings and a cracker to pull! At this outlet, there is also a salad bar and a range of deserts including ice cream and waffles.

The Coffee Bar

The Coffee Bar is an informal indoor space which cells a range of hot drinks, cakes and cookies, along with a range of hot and cold snacks. Seating in this area is similar to a high street coffee shop with round tables for chatting and comfy sofas to relax on.

Two Snack Shacks

We have two purpose-built Snack Shacks, built from shipping containers. These are outdoor kiosks where students are served quickly and can buy a range of hot and cold snacks to eat outdoors, along with cold drinks.

The Sixth Form Cafe

This is a hugely popular eating outlet situated next to one of the Sixth Form study areas. Students can buy light meals such as jacket potatoes, can choose from a range of pastries and cakes, hot and cold drinks and even chocolate bars!

Places to Relax

The Quad

This area has several fixed table tennis tables and chess tables. Students can borrow equipment for these and it has been amazing to see how students automatically take turns, look after the equipment and ensure it is all safely returned. There is also plenty of open space here for students to watch and support when games are in play.

The area is lined with trees, grass and flower beds, with plenty of seating for students from all year groups to chat and interact.

The main field

This is the area for students who want to run around, perhaps gather as a larger group or simply sit or stand in groups under the trees to eat, chat or play.

The 5G Pitches

Students with appropriate footwear are permitted to use the sports facilities to play football. Many students also choose to come and spectate, and staff are on hand to supervise and to ensure that games are good-spirited and friendly.

The Seating Area

We have invested in a large number of picnic tables for students to use. These are often used for eating, but students also play games, read and converse.

The Sixth Form Seating Area

We have an area set aside just for Sixth Form use, and located to the side of the Sixth Form Centre. There is low fencing around this area, meaning that Sixth Formers have their own dedicated area. Some use it for outdoor study, but most for socialising and eating.

The Sixth Form Terrace

All students are allowed to use the Sixth Form terrace and break and lunch. This is a great place for students of all ages to mix in an area close to the school buildings.

The Learning Resource Centre

Sixth Form students can use this area at any time. Other students can access it at break and lunchtimes with a pass. Students can use this area to borrow books and for silent reading. The LRC manager also runs activities for younger students.

SEN/Learning Support Area

We understand that some students need a quieter area or more support from staff. This can be arranged by the SEN/Learning Support team.
