Supporting Your Wellbeing

At Copleston, we understand that young people face many difficulties that might make learning or enjoying Sixth Form Life more difficult. We have a range of strategies in place to support our students. You can find out more about these on our Wellbeing and Safeguarding pages and can also find links to external sources of support for parents and students on our Mental and Physical Health and Wellbeing pages.

Here are some of the things we do in school to support our Sixth Form students with wellbeing:

  • A comprehensive induction programme to help students adapt to new routines. Additional support and events for students applying from outside Copleston to help them make connections and feel part of the community from the start.
  • Open-door policy by the Sixth Form Leadership Team (Dr Walker and Mr Goodrich)  and easy access to office and support staff within the Sixth Form Centre so there are always staff available for a chat or to signpost support.
  • Support with post-18 pathways starts in Year 12, giving students plenty of time to prepare and removing some of the stress of the application process.
  • Support with study skills, revision and time management to avoid students becoming overwhelmed and to ease the transition from GCSE to A level study. Extra support can be quickly put in place for any students who need it, including directed study sessions, liaison with parents, mentoring and progress meeting.
  • Support with personal development through our APEX and Enrichment programmes
  • A strong form tutor system and time with form tutors every day so that students have a regular contact who knows them well.
  • Dedicated subject staff who are willing to provide additional support where needed.
  • Signposting to external organisations where needed.
  • A whole school SEN/Learning Support Department who will ensure that support for additional needs is in place. If you are new to the school or have a new need for support, students/parents can contact the SEN Department at any time during their Sixth Form journey.
  • Safeguarding team always available, with posters around school so students know who to approach and assemblies to support students with any emerging national or local issues.
