Welcome from the Director of Sixth Form
As Director of Sixth Form, I am delighted to welcome you to the Sixth Form area of our website. We are a centre of academic excellence, attracting students from across Ipswich and wider Suffolk, and we even have students travelling from much further afield to attend our nationally recognised basketball academy. We consistently achieve high A level results, and are very proud to be the highest performing state Sixth Form in the Ipswich area for 2024. We help all students to develop strong study habits and to achieve the very best results, often surpassing expectations and enabling them to progress to top university courses and careers.
Sixth Form is about much more than academic success, and we offer a huge range of extracurricular activities and enrichment. Our APEX programme is a unique in-house programme studied by all students to enrich personal development and foster a greater understanding of social and world issues. It also covers many of the topics adults wish they had studied at school such as how to rent or buy a house, taxes and reading a payslip, healthy relationships, mental health and so much more. We have a very successful Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme and support students through all stages of the scheme, including the gold award. Our basketball academy has achieved national success and many students go on to play in top-level US university and college teams. We offer opportunities for leadership within school, music ensembles, drama and performing arts including a superb school show and musical soiree, sports clubs and inclusive activities such as our intermural Sixth Form student football tournament. In recent years, we have offered three overseas visits to New York, Iceland and Italy and this year, we have been granted funding to participate in the Turing Scheme, offering students subsidised cultural visits to incredible worldwide destinations to participate in community action schemes.
We pride ourselves in being friendly and welcoming, beginning with a popular induction barbecue, and continuing with events to support students who choose to join us from other schools, helping them integrate quickly into life at Copleston. We have a range of social spaces for students to meet and chat, including a Sixth-Form only outdoor space, a coffee bar and our hugely popular Sixth Form Cafe!
I invite you to explore our website to find out more about what we can offer you or your son/daughter. We offer an Open Evening in September each year, but also believe the best time to see the school is during a normal school day, when we would be very happy to offer you a tour and to show you what makes Copleston Sixth Form so special and so successful. If you have any further questions or would just like an informal chat about what we can offer, please do not hesitate to contact me via the Sixth Form office.
